The Danish Road Safety Council has existed since 1934, starting as a private venture among a group of people who suffered the tragic loss of a friend in a car accident. Vowing to take action, the friends started off by painting white circles around trees too close to the road during the night. A kind of early guerilla activism. Since then the Council has become formalized and is now the leading interest group fighting for road safety in Denmark.
Today the Council works as an umbrella organization for roughly 45 private and public organizations, working proactively to better traffic safety through information and education.
e-Types has worked extensively with the Council to update their communication and revamp their image. First, a name change from their earlier "Rådet For Større Færdselsikkerhed" hailing from the 1950s, to a more direct and easy "Rådet for Sikker Trafik" - an simpler and more contemporary title that focuses on what the Council does best i.e. safer traffic. The title was also chosen to better resonate with the Council´s very diverse group of stakeholders, from children to adults to public and private institutions.
Also e-Types redrew their crown, simplifying and modernizing it while retaining the characteristics that the crown stands for; quality, proficiency and excellence. Finally it has had a heart added to it, to symbolize the Councils humanitarian and people-centered approach. Sentiments echoed in the green color at the heart of the color scheme - a color that communicates hope, positivity and openness. Finally e-Types also created a custom typography "Safety" inspired by the type used on old american license plates.
