Design

Is your visual identity aligned with your core identity? Does it appeal to your main target groups? Do you leverage the power of design in your organization or products? Are your visual platforms aligned? Is your web site 6 years old? Have you thought through that product and packaging cannot be separated - that the packaging often is the product? Does your design work for you?

Creating something esthetically pleasing is easy. Creating something right is much more difficult. Design is a combination of form and function, of problem solving and aestethic tools.

Our design services fall into three main categories:
  • Visual Identity
  • Design Development
  • Design Management

Further, we offer day-to-day design services in our graphic production
unit, India. Please read more on the web site: india.dk

Visual Identity

A visual identity goes beyond logo. It must be a complete visual identity with a personality and atmosphere that is true to the particular organization and its goals. Here, the logo itself is important but it is only one part of a wider visual identity that also draws its power from typefaces, grid, colours and photographic style, all forming a unified landscape with a visual expression that must be realistic, ambitious and which contains the organization's strong idea.

The visual identity is developed and illustrated in a number of elements to make it come alive and to test the expression. After the core of the visual identity is developed, it is expanded to match the possibilities and functional requirements of the individual areas where it is to be used.

A visual identity typically contains all or most of the following elements:

  • Core elements: logo, logotype, colours, typography
  • Coat of Arms
  • Stationary and template systems
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Brochures/leaflets
  • Clothing and vehicles
  • Website (see digital design)
  • Signage (see information design)
  • Marketing material
  • Adverts: image and employer branding
  • Merchandise, accessories

Design Development

Design development takes place either as part of developing a larger visual identity program or individually from project to project.

When developing a visual identity the focus in the first phases is on the identity itself: does it fit the company, product or organization? When design development kicks in, expertise in each area is required to balance the expression and tone of the identity in full, with the functional needs that must be addressed when designing a website, an employer branding concept or a signage programme.

The following list gives an overview of our main design development services. But we always design the specific project to the specific client. And often projects are carried out in cooperation with specialized partners, internal departments and expert suppliers. Please contact us to hear our take on the challenges you face.

Design Management

Design management encompasses everything that takes place after designing the visual identity. When things have to work, when rules have to be created and followed, when files need to be accessible and information shared across the organization and the infrastructure that will last the lifetime of the design implemented.

Design management must be suited to the organization. Some need a simple pdf with guidelines for their design to ensure consistency. Some need training of their internal staff and ad agency, online design manuals and image banks, defined work-flow systems. Some prefer templates and inspiration to rules and regulations. Some need the rules to be clear and rigorously enforced across a large organization to ensure consistency and efficiency.

Examples of our design management services are
  • Design manuals and guidelines
  • Template systems for internal design production
  • Inspirational Training of designers, agencies and internal departments
  • Image Banks and image management

Brand Architecture

In larger organizations or with large product portfolios the question of brand architecture is central: how should various units relate to the mother brand? Should everything be strictly aligned in terms of visual identity or should a thousand flowers be allowed to bloom? How do the various brands affect each other? What is the central DNA that all brands must contain? And where can they be different?

All these questions are typically answered through an analysis and strategy development process. Typically various scenarios are visualized to make choices and consequences clear and manifest.

Our brand architecture work typically evolves under the following headlines.

  • Brand architecture (re)development
  • Brand portfolio management
  • Decision trees (brand architecture management)
